Baartjes kids make big money from e-Commerce
Je-Mé Kruger Baartjes started her business selling dwarf rabbits in 2004 when she was four years old. Her parents, Neale and Charlaine Baartjes, say they believe it is important to be business savvy from a young age. “Children need to learn about the value of money and how to make money or create a job so that they can have jobs even in times of economic standstill where unemployment rates are high.”
For Je-Mé learning about money would come in the form of breeding and selling dwarf rabbits, which was similar to a scale farming operation. When she started out she had only 3 adult rabbits and sold her baby rabbits or babbits as she called them, at R10 each to pet shops in the area where she lived. By 2007 she was delivering to a wider network of pet shops and so increased her price to R50 to cover the cost of delivery.
When she was 10 years old her parents approached Kwikweb and asked them to help her set up a website so that she could grow her business and enter the world of e-commerce. Not long after the website was set up, Je-Mé had a dwarf rabbit order list which just kept growing. Within a year she was receiving 5 000 hits a month to her website. Even as the price of dwarf rabbits increased she simply could not keep up with the demand and had to increase her price to R250 to tone down demand - the e-commerce multiplier effect in action. Some breeders still contact Je-Mé every year to enquire what price she will be selling for the year ahead. Her web-presence is so significant she has now also become a price setter.
At the time of setting up the website, she had a dream, to motivate her to keep growing her business. When asked she would say that she was going to go to Disney World. “My mom always says that your dreams, just like clothes need to be a size too big so that you can grow into them”. In 2011, only 1 year after her website was set up, she had raised enough money to pay for her and her brother’s accommodation, food, flights and entrance fees to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
“It would not have been possible to reach the goal amount for Disney World so quickly (if at all) if we had not set up a website for Je-Mé with Kwikweb”, her parents said.
Je-Mé however, is not the only child in the family with her own business to run. Her younger brother, Viam, also started his rabbit kennelling business when he was four years old. He charged R15 per rabbit per night. In his first 2 years of kennelling he did not make much money since the idea was still new.
The next challenge is how to multiply the income generated. In 2014, the Baartjes-parents came up with a challenge to motivate the kids to greater excellence in their businesses, “the R8000 challenge”. In essence the task was to grow a R1000 to R8000 in one year. It took a lot of planning, thinking and negotiation, but each child managed to make their R8000 within six months using their existing businesses as a springboard.
After seeing the success of his sister’s website, Viam also put up a website with the help of Kwikweb when he turned 10. This year (2016) his December kennels were filled 16 days after opening for bookings in October (again the multiplier effect in action). He had to buy more cages to ensure that his usual clients, who still had not booked, would have room.
Both of the children love what they do, because when you love what you do, it never feels like work. They accredit their success to the undying support of their parents and the tremendous help that Kwikweb has been to them through the websites. They say their business never would have gotten as big if it wasn’t for Kwikweb which got them noticed and clients all around Gauteng.
Je-Mé, currently 16, says “In the world today you simply must have a website to succeed as a business. More and more people are searching for things that they would like to buy on the internet. My dad says that by the time people are looking to buy something on the internet, their mind is already made up to buy it. After that it’s just a question of which supplier to buy it from. You have to make sure that supplier is you.”
The Kwikweb platform provided brilliant results in a short space of time with a limited understanding of the internet and websites (even 10 year olds could navigate it). With Kwikweb’s help it took two children from being kiddy-farmers and kennel host to being e-commerce business builders. Kwikweb never sold itself as the solution, merely a step onto the next level.

This company has grown tremendously over the last year, especially with the help of Kwikweb, who designed and hosted a web site to promote this new, fun new game.
When Niki Breinstampf (a youth minister by trade and the owner of Bubble Soccer Cape Town) and his wife heard that they were expecting twins, he started looking into part-time jobs to help boost their income.
"At that stage Bubble Soccer was starting to grow overseas, and as I work with kids it seemed like the perfect avenue to create an extra income, while still being involved with the youth.
I ordered 10 bubble soccer balls from China and approached Kwikweb to help me set up a website to promote my new business."
He didn't have a lot of capital on hand, but with the help of Kwikweb his site was up and running in no time. “Within two days I could see the first draft and I then worked with the designer to tweak my ideas, which changed a lot during the course. The guys were very patient with me and I never felt like a burden. I was still waiting for my equipment to arrive, but the website was already generating enquiries! By the time I received the first 10 bubble soccer balls on 24 December 2014, I already had an event scheduled for 26 December."
Niki says that the service he had received from Kwikweb was fantastic. "They are always willing to help, they listened to my ideas and turned them into a reality. I especially like the booking form on the site, which makes it so much easier to book an event. All you do is fill in the form and the necessary details get forwarded straight to me."
By July he was getting over 3 000 (monthly) hits on his website. Since then his business has grown even more. He had to order another 22 balls and he is currently hosting up to 10 events during a weekend. His web site is currently getting up to 5 000 hits (every month) which generates 3-4 enquiries per day.

This story is not about my business, but the success story that I experienced with Kwikwap. Last year I saw an ad of Kwikwap. I had a business with a website which I wanted to change. I wanted the product I was selling, to have a relaunch. I needed fresh ideas and contacted a representative of Kwikwap in Pretoria (where I am staying). Very excited I met her, and all my requests are met with a "no problem". That is usually when I get worried, because the problems usually arises. I needed video clips to be loaded, photos, training to be given etc. She copy and pasted some pictures from the internet on my existing website, changed the background, met with me handed the contract for signage.
I made the mistake to go directly to the bank, paid her the R2500. There after we met again at a coffee shop. She used my laptop, did not bring hers, couldn't not connect to the internet with her modem on my laptop. Wasted 2 hours. She called that training and that was it! I was on my own.
I sent an email to the head office explaining the problem. I cc her as well. Head office told her to fix the problem. According to her she did what was needed.
Then I received a telephone call from a guy called. David, he started the conversation with the following words: Good day sir. My name is David. I am from Kwikwap. May I please develop your website for you? It will be the best site you have ever seen, and I will not charge you a cent for it. Where do you stay David? On the South Coast. I e mailed all the information and video clips to him. Three weeks later I did have the best site I could have hoped for. Even now if there is anything I needed to add or change, it is done the same day.

We got two guesthouses. One is a chalet in our backyard and the other one is in a secure complex. During October 2013 I struck a deal with a very large company for a long term period. They took 3xrooms for 15 months and the total income per month for the first guesthouse is R36 000 per month. The other guesthouse (Villa-Aminta) which we opened January 2014 was also rented to the same company for R18000 per month. And the best of all we do not supply meals. It is self catering. My only expenses are prepaid, cleaning and DSTV.
So I am receiving R54 000.00 per month for the two guesthouses which is R818 000 for the 15 months ending February 2015. And guess what!!! They took another room from 01April 2014 for R4000 per month. For 11 months the total will be R44 000 for this room. Add this to R818 000 and we will pocket R862 000 till the end of February 2015 LESS my expenses as mentioned. This income and Kwikweb made it possible for us to visit our kids in France during December 2014 to saw our first granddaughter. What a pleasure.

For the first time we can upload our products on to the WORLD WIDE WEB and do not have to wait weeks for someone else to do the work for us. Someone you have to pay after the job was done. We make savings every month as we earn.

I have only good stories to tell where our website is concerned. I have so many clients who actually want to see what they are paying for. I give them our website address where they can see several roller doors with different sizes. Most of our clients who view the doors on the website take our quotations. I have also had so many compliments from clients who do view are website saying the roller door industry is a bad one, but on our website is our Vat Reg Number, our Company Registration Number, as well as valid telephone numbers. Clients also love that they can see just some of the stock we sell.
A client wanted a chain set two weeks ago but said his chain was not the same as the normal chain, I told him to go onto the site and check out our chain which he did, and ended up ordering a whole lot of spares from us as he found it difficult to find the stock he needed. Our clients also comment on the quick response we get from kwikweb queries because kwikweb are immediately sent to me so I can action them immediately. So yea, I couldn't be happier with my website and the clients love it.

Of course not all websites are run for business purposes. My site is one of biblical teaching and articles on theological and biblical doctrines and issues. With this in mind, one could summarise that the primary purpose of the website is reaching Christian (and other) people from across the world. As an almost 68 year old I have built and revamped it many times because the user-friendly concept has made that so easy. After all, how many 68 year olds build and maintain a pro-looking and smoothly operating website? I also need to add that I have not nearly completed the full site I have in mind.
What is important, however, is the statistical world-wide picture of who I have been able to reach. In saying this, I need to underline that, apart from some attention to keywording, I have not had much time to take on additional search engine optimization activities, something I am now moving towards. The results so far have come from the kwikweb system’s inherent ability to ‘be seen’ on the world-wide web and by search engines.
In the course of 13 months the website has had more than 16 000 hits. 6411 have been from the USA, followed by 3592 from China, 1698 from Europe and 1159 from South Africa. Other countries are: Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Guinea, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, South Korea, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom and Venezuela. In addition there are some described as unknown.
Given the purpose stated in the first paragraph, I can confidently say that the results have far exceeded my expectations. There are people in some of the countries listed that would not have been reached in any other way. The impact undoubtedly stretches much wider than the number of hits only, as one can accept articles are printed and shared with others. Bear in mind that the website is not ‘just another Christian website’, but carries material challenging the philosophized traditions of men in the face of the original biblical context and asking them to take a fresh look at what the original authors were saying and to whom.

Soos wat inligting beskikbaar raak, word dit eenvoudig op die webblad geplaas en siedaar, dit is vir al my leerlinge en hul ouers beskikbaar. Voorheen was dit nuusbriewe, omsendskrywes, e-posse, SMS’e en wat nog alles. Dit was baie tydrowend en bowendien het almal steeds nie die inligting bekom nie. Nou kan elkeen op sy eie tyd na die webblad gaan en die nodige inligting bekom.
Die opsie van ‘n “lede teken aan blad” is baie handig. Hier word inligting deurgegee wat slegs vir individuele persone bedoel is. Vroeër het ek geworstel om elke maand vir leerlinge rekeningstate uit te stuur en om leerlinge se uitslae deur te gee. Nou word dit, danksy my webblad, onmiddellik en op ‘n deurlopende basis aan al die betrokkenes beskikbaar gestel. Elkeen kan nou op sy eie tyd na die webblad gaan en sy uitslae of sy rekeningstaat gaan aflaai. Geen maandeindes en hope admin. wat daarmee gepaard gaan nie.
Daaglikse vrae wat in die verlede beantwoord moes word en baie onnodige tyd in beslag geneem het, word nou met die grootste vrymoedigheid beantwoord met: “Gaan kyk op die musiekskool se webblad”.

I was referred to KWIKWEB when I had issues with a previous website that was
continually hacked by someone overseas. The host at that time could not tell me who or
why. However David from KWIKWEB arrived to see me and he could identify
immediately which country the hacking originated from. Obviously someone with
nothing better to do with their time.
The results are amazing, at the end of May, next month my YORKIE website will be four
years old. My hits average anything from 300, but mostly a minimum of five hundred a
day and in recent times R3 000-00 plus in one day. We frequently have in excess of a
thousand hits within a 24 hour period. The hits alone show the interest shown in my site
and this has been an ongoing story since the day it first went live.
We monitor our hits daily.
Our site is close on a million hits which we will achieve hopefully by the end of this
month. It will be a great celebration to hit that mark.
Frequently when the phone rings or I receive an email, the person on the other side is
telling me they are on my site or were on my site earlier that day.
Kwikwap as I first new it, is excellent, the service outstanding and my previous website
was continually hacked whereas I have never had this problem.

The Kwikwap system also allows me to update my own content whenever there is a need at no extra cost to me. I hear story’s where website owners pay for every update they need example: 1 picture= R 350.00 what a rip off!!
I urge any small business out there to get a web presence with a Kwikwap Marketing Website System. And the best part of it is proudly South African built for South African needs. If one needs help it is just a phone call away. Try this with any other foreign system and see how long you wait before you get an answer (bear in mind the time lag due to country specific time zone)

When I took control of our website last year, I was very surprised when you phoned me and assured me that our website was getting a remarkable number of hits. In the last 5 days we have averaged 295.6 hits per day, and if you consider these are people either wanting to buy Businesses or have business plans done for them, it is a very encouraging sign in our current economy. Many of the enquiries for business plans eventually grow either into assistance with licence applications, due diligence assistance etc., but in some instances, they evolve into Clients wanting Businesses if their chosen Oil Company rejects their application. Our enquiries for Businesses are keeping us running.

I just wanted to pop you a mail and let you know how impressed I am.
I loaded the third level and some new products this weekend and I was very impressed with the site. It is quicker, more user friendly with fantastic functionality. You guys have done well. I am suitably impressed. It is a far cry from the what I was dealing with last year. I especially like the Facebook "like" option. I think it will compliment the rest of our marketing initiatives.
If I may point out one little thing that I don't think you okes noticed. When you have activated the 3rd level and it lists the "groups" on the Home page, the drop down menu is hampered if there are two lines of groups. Have a look on GSO and you will see what I mean.
Anyway
We are just waiting for the shipment to arrive in the country and get through customs then I will send you a token of our appreciation. 
